The committee of the MCC regrets to advise club members that Chris Sella (Club Secretary) and Inigo Taylor (PRO), who I am sure are well known to many of you, have tendered their resignation from the committee of the MCC. Chris has decided to pursue other goals within the local climbing sphere, and the committee wishes him the best of luck and every success to him and his partners in their endeavours. We look forward to exploring the possibilities of collaboration in future to the benefit of all local climbers. As indeed, the MCC is open to collaboration with anyone wishing to promote our wonderful sport locally.
Inigo, who is also known for his particularly brilliant climbing photography, has had to reduce his involvement in the sport due to other professional and personal commitments on the other hand. We wish him well and hope to see him on the rock again regularly. We would like to thank both for their significant contribution to the running of the club during the past few years.
New Club Secretary and Committee Members needed
We are therefore appealing to members of the climbing community to consider joining the committee. Are you able to devote a small part of your spare time to help us take the club, and climbing in Malta into the future? We have made significant progress already but need to maintain momentum in order to achieve our goals.
For example, through our sub-committees we are working on a national training certification structure for guides and instructors supported by the UIAA (International Climbing & Mountaineering Federation), as well as UIAA certified training programmes. We also have an environmental sub-committee, develop and maintain sport routes, organise club meets, open the Sliema indoor wall, Kids Zone – these are all areas where the club is active and needs support.
Of critical importance is the Club Secretary position. We are seeking an individual who has a knowledge of climbing, is well organised and ok with handling a small amount of administrative work. This involves attending committee meetings, taking minutes, ensuring that our regulatory requirements as a club, Voluntary Organisation and member of UIAA, EUMA and Sport Malta are fulfilled and similar, all very essential to the correct functioning of the club. We also need additional members on the committee who would help organise and support club activities and other climbing projects based on their own skills and expertise. It’s worth mentioning that it would be great if we also had female representation on the committee!
Please contact me by PM on Facebook or via email to president@maltaclimbingclub.org if you feel you can contribute. The Malta Climbing Club needs you!
