Wied Babu Clean Up

CleanUpPosterwebsite.jpg

Mark your calendars – on Saturday the 15th of September the Malta Climbing Club will be carrying out a major clean up at what is probably the most popular crag in the Maltese Islands.  As a full member of the UIAA (the International Climbing & Mountaineering Federation)  this cleanup is also being promoted under the UIAA’s “Respect the Mountains” banner.  We are also collaborating with the “Lets Do it Malta” organisers who are organising cleanup activities all over the island on the same day.  All participants will receive a UIAA tee-shirt on a first come first served basis, while stocks last!

The plan is to collect all the trash that unfortunately litters the approach path and most of the valley. The area directly above and in front of Smoothies Cave is also prone to fly tipping, whereas the paths that crisscross the valley are host to even more rubbish.   The more support we get the more areas we shall be able to clean up!

The club will provide some gloves and sturdy rubbish bags. However, if you’ve got your own pair of sturdy work gloves we suggest you bring them along. Please wear sturdy shoes!

We will meet at 9:00 at the Blue Grotto Belvedere for this event.

In the afternoon the club will be hosting its weekly club meet at Wied Babu West Side. Routes of all shapes, sizes and grades are to be found in the lush valley of Wied Babu, limits of Żurrieq. Whether you want to test your mettle with a long slabby trad route, clip bolts on upside down routes or play around on low level boulders, the valley has it all.

As always, beginners and newcomers to the sport are welcome to join. MCC will provide harnesses, ropes and shoes. Non-members are asked to make a donation of €5.00 for use of club equipment (or join the club for €15.00!). Money generated from these activities goes towards the MCC Bolt Fund, without which we wouldn’t have sport climbs to enjoy!

We encourage our members to carpool, as parking is limited at the Blue Grotto Belvedere.
