GB youth climbing team member in Malta in August

She has been described as ‘one of the most talented and promising young climbers in the UK’ (Neil Mcgeachy – GB team South Scotland coach), with ‘a fantastic ability to move cleanly on the rock and a well developed repertoire of moves for her age’ (Dave McLeod).

“She” is Rachel Carr, member of the GB youth team who will shortly be climbing in the Maltese Islands. Rachel, who is now 15 years old, has been climbing for just 3 years, yet has progressed rapidly to become one of the leading lights in British youth climbing.

Her latest achievements include:

Oct 2010 – 1st Youth B Girls, British Lead Climbing Championships, EICA
Nov 2010 – 2nd Youth B Girls, BMC Youth Open/GB team selection event.
Jan 2011 – 2nd Junior Girls (12-16 yrs) British Bouldering Championships, London
Feb 2011 – 1st Girls Scottish Schools Climbing Competition (S1-S6), Glasgow
Apr 2011 – climbs ‘Papagora’ first outside 7c at Siurana, Spain
Apr 2011 – 4th Under 16 girls BMC Leading Ladder Finals, Cardiff
May 2011 – 23rd Youth B Girls, European Youth Cup, Edinburgh. Attains 50th in World Rankings
May 2011 – Retains 14-16 Girls Scottish Youth Climbing Championships for second year

Rachel will be joining the club on the boat trip to Comino on the 7th August.  We look forward to showing her round the crags in Malta and Gozo!
