The Malta Climbing Club (MCC) will be organising Malta’s first ever bouldering competition, which will be held at Wied Mixta in the South of the Island near Ghar Hasan, on February 26.

With the help of the Malta Tourism Authority, Gozo-born top British climber and Alpinist Stevie Haston shall be flying to Malta especially to attend this event. Mr. Haston gladly accepted the chance to return to his country of birth as his mother is in fact Gozitan and he spent his childhood growing up in Gozo, scrambling around the fields, cliffs and rocky shores. No doubt during this event Mr. Haston will show off the climbing talent that has made him a legend amongst the global climbing community.

He will at the end of the day also be giving a slide show presentation about his exploits to local climbers as well as any interested members of the public. This is an occasion not to be missed and will take place at the Sliema Scouts Headquarters in Depiro Str., Sliema also on the 26th February at 8pm.

During the competition, climbers will try to climb as many routes as possible, while at the same time minimizing the number of failed attempts! Clearly, the climber with the most points will win the competition.

Members of the public are invited to attend and see for themselves what this challenging sport is all about.

This competition is the first such event – other similar climbing events are already being planned with a focus on international participation.
