Indoor Bouldering Wall

The information contained in this post is from 2011 and should be considered obsolete

Members of the Malta Climbing Club can make regular use of an indoor climbing/ bouldering wall which is situated at the Sliema Scouts Headquarters in Depiro Str, Sliema.

A roof extension to the wall is currently being designed and should be installed in the first part of 2011. This will enable climbers to lead hard, overhanging routes in safety.

The extension, designed by Architect Karl Farrugia

The wall is open to MCC members only. Non-members can apply for MCC membership at the wall at a price of €10 per annum. A donation of €3 per session is kindly requested to make use of the wall. A reduced donation of €20 will be valid for 10 sessions. A disclaimer will have to be signed prior to climbing. Beginners will be under supervision of the MCC representative on duty at the time. Its ok to bring drinks and food with you but everyone must take his own waste with him after he’s finished!

The wall is so short, How are you suppose to promote wall climbing when you have a wall so short that users don’t even need a safety cord?

    1. Hi Russell, the wall is a bouldering wall – bouldering is a type of climbing when the climber doesnt use a rope but climbs at a height such that its still safe for him to jump off the route to the ground without hurting himself! Our wall is small but its ok for training especially during the winter months in the evenings after work when you can’t just pop out to a crag because its dark! Its also a meeting point for new climbers to the islands and helps them get in touch with the local climbing “network”. I hope this answers your question! Kind regards, Simon Alden

Great to sample the wall last week. there is certainly a good atmosphere on thu eves with all beginners & experts enjoying the problems; two suggestions-
1- more easy routes to warm up on eg a traverse
2- texture the panels ( including the addition of micro features) to improve footwork technique. Also make the tufa drop down more

hope to return to the wall after the extension is completed. best wishes!

    1. Thanks for the comments and suggestions John, we look forward to having you back!
